Literacy is everywhere in our centre! Books, blackboards, paper, artroom, sandpit, games, puzzles, songs, rhymes and so much more. In fact any situation where children are surrounded by words, either written, orally or verbally are literacy learning opportunities. Activities where they can mark make/draw and create develop writing skills and an understanding of how verbal language is made visual. As children read through books they are understanding they go top to bottom, left to right, front to back. They begin to make connections between illustrations and what is written and become familiar with the structure and rhythm of words and sentences.
